Eyelid Ptosis

what is eyelid ptosis?

Ptosis of the eyelid, also known as droopy eyelid, is a condition characterized by the sagging or drooping of the upper eyelid. It occurs when the muscles responsible for lifting the eyelid weaken or become stretched. This can obstruct the normal field of vision from the affected eye(s) and create a tired and possibly asymmetrical appearance. Ptosis can be congenital (present from birth), or acquired due to aging, trauma, muscle or nerve damage, or certain medical conditions, including Horner’s syndrome. In severe cases, ptosis can affect both eyes and significantly impact daily activities. While there are varying degrees of ptosis, treatment options, such as surgical correction, are available to improve both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the eyelids.
