How to make 10 mL of 1:100,000 epinephrine (without lidocaine)
This is used by Dr. Lansford for vasoconstriction near critical nerves, such as thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, and parotidectomy.
Supplies:
10 mL syringe
TB syringe
injectable saline (at least 10 mL)
18 gauge needle
27 gauge needle, 1.5” long
Adrenaline (epinephrine): 30 mg/30 mL bottle or 1 mg/1mL vial (this concentration is equal to 1:1000 epinephrine)
Steps:
Draw up 9.9 mL of injectable saline in the 10 mL syringe
2. Draw up 0.1 mL of 1:1000 epinephrine in the TB syringe.
3. Add the 0.1 mL of 1:1000 epinephrine to the 10 mL syringe
4. Use a bubble in the 10 mL syringe to mix the solution, tilting the syringe up and down
5. Fasten a 27 gauge 1.5” needle on the syringe for injection
